Hull City goalkeeper coach Gary Walsh is reportedly set to join Aston Villa.

According to the Hull Daily Mail, Hull City goalkeeper coach Gary Walsh has chosen to leave the club in order to reunite with Steve Bruce at Aston Villa.

Bruce took over as Villa boss last month following the departure of Roberto Di Matteo, and with two wins and two draws, he’ll be happy with his unbeaten start to life at Villa Park.

Bruce has been busy attempting to build his coaching staff, and he’s already landed Stephen Clemence as his first-team coach having worked together at Birmingham City and later Hull City.

Now, Bruce looks set to raid former club Hull yet again, as the Hull Daily Mail report that goalkeeping coach Gary Walsh is all set to join Villa this week.

It’s claimed that Walsh had been expected to stay with Mike Phelan at the KCOM Stadium after Villa’s first approach for him last month failed, but it’s stated Walsh has now been persuaded to join up with Bruce at Villa.

Walsh, 48, featured alongside Bruce at Manchester United during their playing days, and was actually brought to Hull by Nick Barmby, months before Bruce was appointed Tigers boss.

They appear to have worked well together though, and Bruce has allegedly landed his man at the second attempt, with his appointment set to be confirmed ahead of Villa’s clash with Blackburn Rovers this weekend.

Villa have a young, foreign goalkeeper between the sticks in Pierluigi Gollini, and Bruce will be keen to have an experienced former player and coach in Walsh work closely with him not only to develop him as a player, but also help him adjust to life in the Championship.
