Hull City are keen on making a January transfer move to sign Aston Villa striker Rudy Gestede, report The Sun.

The switch could pave the way for Abel Hernandez to move the other way and re-united with former Hull boss Steve Bruce, the report adds.

Hull are battling to stay in the Premier League and need firepower up front.

Abel Hernandez was prolific in the Championship last season, scoring 21 goals to fire the Tigers to promotion.

The 26-year-old Uruguayan has found life tougher back in England’s top tier, and has scored only one goal in 10 Premier League appearances.

Aston Villa have plenty of options up front already, with Ross McCormack and Jonathan Kodjia signed on big money deals, along with Gestede.

Gestede, 28, has scored three goals in 12 games this season, seven of which have been starts.

He has not featured much under Steve Bruce so far, and the opportunity to do a swap deal could potentially be tempting.

Former Blackburn striker Gestede scored five Premier League goals in 14 starts and a further 18 substitute appearances in Villa’s woeful campaign last season.
