Mike Phelan has been interim manager of Hull City ever since Steve Bruce resigned before the season began.

When Steve Bruce left Hull City on the eve of the new Premier League season, the Tigers were in disarray. A heavily diminished squad, no transfers completed and managerless, it was looking bleak as the opening weekend began.
But under interim boss Mike Phelan, Hull won their first two games and have performed admirably despite such mitigating circumstances. The defence has been shored up, Robert Snodgrass has been in scintillating form and players such as Sam Clucas and Jake Livermore have come on leaps and bounds.

And now, according to Sky Sports, it appears that they are close to agreeing a deal with Phelan to make him their permanent manager. Moreover, they also report that any such deal could be agreed as early as this week.
With the spectre of their manager’s future gone, Phelan and Hull should now be able to concentrate on the task at hand – staying in the Premier League.
It is hard to argue that Phelan does not deserve this. Having been Sir Alex Ferguson’s assistant manager at Manchester United, it would appear that the Hull manager has learned a thing or two from the legendary Scotsman after he earned August’s manager-of-the-month award and beating champions Leicester City in the process.
