Aston Villa almost managed to sign Hull City’s Abel Hernandez last season.

According to a report in the Daily Mirror, Hull City are ready to hand Abel Hernandez a new contract to fend off interest from other clubs.
Hernandez is set to be given a £55,000-a-week deal at Hull, who are determined to keep hold of their star striker.
Hernandez was heavily linked with Aston Villa over the summer (Sky Sports), and he almost made the move to the Championship club.

However, the transfer fell through, and Hull are now eager to ensure a similar situation doesn’t arise in January.
It seems unlikely that Hernandez would move to Villa now, as the Midlands side have made plenty of other additions to their strike force.

Villa brought in the likes of Jonathan Kodjia and Ross McCormack over the previous transfer window, meaning there is no room for another forward in their squad.
However, there is likely to be interest in Hernandez from other sides, if he is potentially available.
Hernandez has scored one goal in seven Premier League appearances for Hull so far this season.
