Hull City are reportedly looking to take Liverpool winger Lazar Markovic on loan.

According to the Liverpool Echo, Lazar Markovic is set to return to Liverpool after a dismal loan spell with Sporting Lisbon – and Hull City are reportedly hoping to land him.

Markovic, 22, was snapped up by Liverpool in the summer of 2014 having starred with Benfica, and having arrived in a big-money deal, there was plenty of excitement and expectation surrounding the Serbian winger.

With just two goals in 19 Premier League outings in his first season, Markovic struggled to settle at Anfield, and has in fact spent most of his time away from Merseyside.

Markovic spent last season in Turkey during a loan spell with Fenerbahce, whilst this term he was farmed out to Sporting Lisbon, handing him a return to Portugal where he dazzled at Benfica.

However, Markovic has struggled to make an impact again this season, making just four starts and scoring only once, with only 119 minutes of action since the end of October.

Now, the Liverpool Echo report that Markovic’s loan deal is set to be cancelled – and Hull City are in talks about a deal to take him on loan for the rest of the season, as they look for more quality in their fight against relegation.

Hull have already swooped to land three new signings this month, with Omar Elabdellaoui, Evandro and Oumar Niasse all joining the club, and after Niasse signed on loan from Everton, another Merseyside swoop could be on the cards, with talks ongoing over a deal for Markovic.

Hull have one remaining loan spot left to use from a Premier League club, and Markovic will be no stranger to manager Marco Silva, as he was managing Estoril during the winger’s time at Benfica, and he could see the Serb as the extra quality that Hull need – even with his struggled in England so far.
