Joe Ledley and Sebastian Bassong are unattached after being released by Crystal Palace and Norwich City – but both could have a fresh start at Hull.
The transfer window may be shut but that does not mean the transfers are finished at Hull City.
30-year-old Ledley left Crystal Palace when his contract expired at the end of the season but surprisingly has failed to find a new club. He wants to continue his career having turned down offers from Turkey and China and, while he would have preferred to remain in the Premier League, a lack of offers means a Championship move may be on the cards.
Bassong, meanwhile, is unattached after leaving Norwich City as part of their eyebrow-raising summer cull but The Tigers face competition from Championship rivals Birmingham City.
The report adds that the 31-year-old former Newcastle and Tottenham defender has been training with The Blues since July and is being offered a contract to stay at St Andrews until the end of the 2017/18 season.
Hull lost both Curtis Davies and Harry Maguire in the summer and the only centre-backs to arrive at the KCom Stadium were Michael Hector and Fikayo Tomori on loan from Chelsea, whose owner Roman Abramovich is close friends with Slutsky.
However, Bassong would add some much-needed experience in the heart of the defence.
Ledley, too, would represent a fine addition having played regularly in the Premier League for Palace for the last three-and-a-half years. Hull brought in Seb Larsson, Jackson Irvine and Kevin Stewart this summer but Ledley would offer tenacity, work-rate and steel at the base of midfield.
