Hull City and Reading are the latest clubs to take an interest in the Portsmouth defender.
Hull City and Reading are tracking Portsmouth defender Matt Clarke, according to the Daily Mirror [live blog entry 12:53].
Both clubs are being tipped to add to their options at centre-back ahead of Wednesday’s transfer deadline, with Barnsley’s Angus MacDonald – formerly of Reading – said to feature on Hull’s wish list, and Aston Villa’s Tommy Elphick a rumoured target for the Royals.
Clarke, however, could be the player they turn to should either of those moves fail.
The former Ipswich Town trainee first moved to Fratton Park on loan in 2015, and the transfer was made permanent a year later, as part of the deal which saw Adam Webster head in the opposite direction.
Clarke was a regular as Portsmouth clinched the League Two title last season and has not missed a single minute in the league since his return to Kenny Jacket’s starting 11 in early September.
Premier League sides Watford and Brighton & Hove Albion were credited with interest in the 21-year-old late last year, although a move to Reading could hold the most appeal from a geographical perspective.
