Hull City and Portsmouth are competing to sign Nottingham Forest’s Ryan Yates in January, according to the Daily Mirror (November 15, page 65).

Yates has only appeared in one of Forest’s matchday squads this season, resulting in a 45-minute run out against Bury in the EFL Cup.

And it was reported this week that the midfielder could leave the City Ground on loan.

Having previously excelled in temporary spells at Scunthorpe United and Notts County in Leagues One and Two, Yates and Nottingham Forest alike may favour a Championship move next.

And that could play into the hands of Hull, who compete with Forest at second-tier level – one higher than Portsmouth.

Fellow Championship sides Bolton Wanderers and Rotherham United were linked with summer moves for the 20-year-old, although there is no indication that either are ready to rival Hull and Portsmouth in January.

Would Hull City or Portsmouth be better for the Nottingham Forest player’s development?
