Hugo Lloris is reportedly set to sign a new deal at Spurs, having initially snubbed the opportunity.
According to The Mirror, Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris will sign a new contract with the club having received reassurances from chairman Daniel Levy.
Spurs enjoyed a fine season under Mauricio Pochettino, finishing in third place in the Premier League and qualifying for next season’s Champions League – a huge pulling power for the club ahead of the summer transfer window.
As much as signing new players will be key for Pochettino, keeping hold of the current squad is just as important, and reports suggested that a deal to keep goalkeeper Lloris at the club had stalled in midweek.
The Mirror reported earlier in the week that Lloris had rejected Tottenham’s first offer of a new deal at White Hart Lane, but the club remained hopeful of keeping him in North London beyond the expiration of his current deal in 2019.
However, The Mirror now claim that Lloris has held further talks with chairman Daniel Levy, and a deal now appears likely for the Frenchman and Spurs.
It’s claimed that Lloris was alarmed by Tottenham’s end-of-season slump, and needed some reassurances from Levy that the club would strengthen in the summer transfer window,
The report claims that Lloris has now been given the guarantees he was looking for, with Levy looking to land summer signings to compete in all competitions – and Lloris is now prepared to sign a new contract at White Hart Lane and put an end to the rumours that he could leave Spurs this summer.
With manager Pochettino tied down to a new deal and Lloris seemingly following suit, Spurs look to be heading in the right direction this summer – and adding more talent to an already impressive young squad could see them challenge for the Premier League title again.
