The Turkey international would be a superb signing for West Ham United.
Reports emanating from France today suggest that the Hammers have received a massive boost in their pursuit of Besiktas midfielder Oğuzhan Özyakup, with French media outlet La Provence claiming that Marseille have pulled out of the race to sign him.
The 24-year-old former Arsenal star has proven to be a revelation for the Turkish side over the past 12 months, scoring five goals and registering nine assists in 40 appearances last term – impressive numbers when it is considered that he was mostly deployed in the deep-lying midfield position.
Besiktas’ Oguzhan Ozyakup in action
The Turkey international would be a superb signing for West Ham, what with their lack of creativity and guile in midfield, especially with Mark Noble’s regression becoming more pronounced over the past 12 months.
And La Provence claim that Slaven Bilic should have the all-clear to finalise a move for the £17.6 million-rated star, after Ligue 1 giants Marseille refused to bid more than £8.8 million to secure his services.
Arsenal have also been credited with an interest, but as stubborn as Arsene Wenger is, it will be highly unlikely that he will bring back a player he deemed surplus to requirements just five years ago.
And if the Hammers do manage to bring the 24-year-old to the London Stadium this summer, it could prove to be a signing of real significance for the east London outfit.
