According to a report from The Sun on Sunday (14/4; page 61), Steve Bruce is going to try and convince Keiren Westwood to stay at Sheffield Wednesday this summer, but Huddersfield Town hope to land him on a free transfer.

Westwood has had a strange season. The 34-year-old could not get a look-in during Jos Luhukay’s tenure, but has returned to being an important first-team player since Bruce took charge.

Nevertheless, his future looks set to be up in the air at the end of the season. The Sun on Sunday (14/4; page 61) reports that he is out of contract at Hillsborough in the summer, and Huddersfield are eyeing an approach as they prepare for their return to the Championship.

But the report adds that Bruce wants to try and agree fresh terms with the stopper despite the club seeking to make cutbacks.

Losing Westwood would be a blow for Wednesday. He has taken little time to rediscover his best form, and put in an outstanding display at Leeds on Saturday. One stop in particular during the first-half at Elland Road has to be a contender for save of the season as he managed to send Tyler Roberts’ header over the bar from close range.

Replacing him would be an extremely difficult task if he did leave. But now that he is back playing for the Owls, perhaps Wednesday have a great chance to convince Westwood to stick around, especially as Huddersfield will be joining them in the second tier next year.
