According to the Daily Mail, Huddersfield Town have joined Burnley and Newcastle United in the race to sign Celtic defender Jozo Simunovic this summer.

The Terriers won promotion to the Premier League for the first time in their history last month, and manager David Wagner will be pursuing reinforcements to give his side a shot at survival in the top flight.

Earlier today, BBC Sport reported that Huddersfield have agreed a £10million deal to sign Manchester City midfielder Aaron Mooy after he enjoyed a superb loan spell under Wagner last season.

Other additions will be needed though, and the Daily Mail report that he is now looking to land a defender, with Celtic’s Jozo Simunovic believed to be near the top of his wish list.

Simunovic, 22, joined Celtic from Dinamo Zagreb in September 2015 as the Bhoys looked to replace Virgil van Dijk, but the Croatian centre back struggled for form and fitness in his first season with the club.

Under Brendan Rodgers though, Simunovic has kicked on to arguably become Celtic’s best centre back, and his performances last term seemingly haven’t gone unnoticed with Premier League scouts.

It’s claimed that Celtic want £8million for Simunovic this summer, and Huddersfield have now joined Newcastle United and Burnley in the race to sign him as a Premier League move continues to look like a strong possibility.

Huddersfield do have Christopher Schindler and Michael Hefele at the back, but Jon Gorenc-Stankovic and Mark Hudson bit-part figures, Simunovic could play an important role should Huddersfield snap him up.
