Huddersfield are reportedly closing in on the signature of Montpellier striker Steve Mounie.

According to major French newspaper L’Equipe, Huddersfield Town are set to agree a €13million (£11.5million) deal for Montpellier striker Steve Mounie.

The Terriers won promotion to the Premier League for the first time in their history last month, defeating Reading on penalties in the Championship play-off final after a 0-0 draw in 120 minutes at Wembley Stadium.

Now, manager David Wagner – who earned plaudits for Huddersfield’s style of play last season – must look to strengthen his squad, and it appears that he has plenty of money to spend.

The Daily Mail report that Huddersfield are in talks to sign Chelsea loanee Izzy Brown in an £8.5million deal, whilst The Telegraph claim that a £10million deal for Manchester City’s Aaron Mooy is also close following a successful loan spell.

Huddersfield are seemingly prepared to not only break their transfer record twice with those deals, but possibly for a third time as well, given that L’Equipe claim a deal for Montpellier striker Steve Mounie is close.

It’s claimed that a €13million (£11.5million) deal is set to be agreed between the two clubs, with Wagner set to add Mounie to his existing attacking options of Nahki Wells, Elias Kachunga and Collin Quaner.

Mounie, 22, smashed 15 goals in all competitions last season, and whilst his exploits have attracted major interest, it seems that Huddersfield have won the race for the Benin international striker.

Standing at 6ft 3in tall, Mounie is a strong and powerful centre forward with great aerial ability, whilst he also has a great turn of pace for his size, giving Huddersfield a real threat in attack – and Wagner will be hoping to tap into his potential over the coming years should a deal go through.
