Huddersfield and Swansea target Andy Yiadom rejects new contract with Barnsley to try and push for Premier League move.

Andy Yiadom has rejected a new contract with Barnsley as he pushes for a move to the Premier League, reports the Huddersfield Examiner.

Both Huddersfield Town and Swansea City are understood to be interested in the right-back, who has now entered the final year of his current deal at Oakwell.

The Yorkshire Post confirmed that the Tykes have already rejected bids from Huddersfield and Reading for Yiadom and manager Paul Heckingbottom is determined to keep hold of the 25-year-old.

“The club has got to be on the front foot and aggressive and make it happen [a new contract],” Heckingbottom said.

“Then Andy has others options such as letting his contract run out and seeing what he can get next year.

“I would hate it to come to that and would love it if he is here for a long time. It would be a massive blow if we were to lose him.”

The Sun reported earlier this month that the Terriers had made a £750,000 bid for Yiadom, but that Barnsley were holding out for closer to £2m.

QPR are also thought to be keeping tabs, but they and the Royals are unlikely destinations with the Ghana international preferring a switch to the English top flight.

Yiadom only joined Heckingbottom’s side from League Two Barnet in the summer of 2016, but had an impressive first season in the Championship and clearly caught a few eyes as a result.
