Report: Howe would be leading contender for Spurs if Pochettino goes

Tottenham Hotspur could reportedly turn to Eddie Howe if Mauricio Pochettino leaves the club for another job.

A report from The Telegraph has suggested that Eddie Howe would be the leading contender for the Tottenham job should Mauricio Pochettino decide to leave Spurs in the future.

The Telegraph reports that Manchester United and Real Madrid both admire Pochettino and could consider targeting the Argentinian the next time that their respective top jobs are up from grabs.

And it would appear that Spurs may turn to Howe if Pochettino does go, with the report suggesting that he could be a top target for Daniel Levy after the tremendous job that he has done with Bournemouth.

It has been expected for a long time that Howe would eventually get the chance to move on from the Vitality Stadium and take the next step in his managerial career. But given what he has achieved with the Cherries – as well as the scars that came from his tenure with Burnley – it is always going to be a tough task for another club to lure the Englishman away.

But Tottenham are surely the sort of team that Howe would find difficult, if not impossible, to turn down if they came calling, as Pochettino did while he was Southampton boss.

Spurs are a club that continue to grow on and off the pitch so they are undoubtedly able to put a very attractive project on the table should they need to replace Pochettino in the next couple of years.

Their development since Pochettino arrived may leave some supporters wanting the Spurs board to go out and get a marquee name who has managed an elite club before. But if Levy wants to stick with the tried and trusted method that brought Pochettino to Tottenham, then Howe would arguably be an excellent option – should they need to consider him.
