Eddie Howe apparently believes Harry Winks is an upgrade on his current midfield options at Newcastle United, the Northern Echo say.
Winks to Newcastle?
Winks is very much a target of Newcastle ahead of the January transfer window, with the Tottenham Hotspur man continuing to struggle for game time.
He has been used sparingly under Jose Mourinho, Nuno and Antonio Conte so far.
Conte did bring Winks off the bench for Spurs last night, but there is a feeling that Tottenham could be open to selling their academy graduate if a sizeable offer came in for him.
Would Winks go?
Whether a move to Newcastle would appeal to the England international remains to be seen though.
Newcastle are currently stuck battling against the drop, and although Winks is not getting much game time, it would be a brave move to join a relegation fight.

Winks was once an England regular and at the peak of his powers, he starred against Real Madrid.
Those performances are likely to be why Howe reportedly rates him so highly.
It is easy to see why the Newcastle boss considers Winks to be an improvement on his current options too.
While the likes of Jonjo Shelvey and Isaac Hayden do have strengths, there are also areas of weakness in their games.
Winks has a similar passing range to Shelvey, but gets around the pitch better – and he is more technically gifted than Hayden.
If he was to join Newcastle he would surely play regularly, but whether that will be enough to entice him to St. James’ Park still remains to be seen.
