Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe dropped an exciting hint on Friday afternoon.
Speaking in Saudi Arabia, the Magpies boss confirmed that the club could still sign additional players – even after the Bruno Guimaraes deal is done.
The Brazil international will be Newcastle’s third signing of a transfer window which has also seen Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood arrive on Tyneside.
Howe is widely reported to want a central defender to be added to the squad before Monday’s deadline.
But he could also be getting a striker.
Eddie Nketiah of Arsenal has been re-linked with a transfer to Newcastle United in recent days.
The Telegraph claimed on Friday that the North-East outfit were in pole position to sign Nketiah.
According to 90 Min now, Newcastle have opened talks with Arsenal to get the 22-year-old marksman over a permanent deal.
The report added that Howe is a ‘big fan’ of the player and that he pushed forward his plans to sign him, having originally planned on picking him up as a Bosman this summer.
Could it happen?
Well if Newcastle can pull off a signing like Guimaraes then yes, signing a squad player at Arsenal with six months left on his contract is definitely plausible.
Mikel Arteta likes the England Under-21 international and labelled him ‘phenomenal‘ last year but the truth is, Nketiah has zero future at the Emirates Stadium, having managed only 51 minutes of Premier League football this season.
Newcastle is definitely an appealing move for any player these days and it’s certainly possible that the player himself will be keen on the transder.
