The Liverpool Echo noted how Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp and Raheem Sterling were in discussion with each other after full-time yesterday.

Sterling smiles

Liverpool and Manchester City played out a 2-2 draw at Anfield on Sunday, with both camps coming away from the game not too downhearted about he result.

Sky Sports’ cameras picked up on Klopp hugging De Bruyne at full-time, but it seems that the Belgian was not the only opposition player who the Liverpool boss had a word with after the game.

Klopp apparently was very warm towards Sterling, who came away from their conversation with a broad smile on his face.

The Echo does not reveal the topic of conversation, but it does suggest that Sterling was pleased with whatever Klopp said to him.

Sterling, of course, left Liverpool not too long before Klopp took charge at Anfield – so the pair have never worked together in their careers yet.

Sterling’s move away from Liverpool, which now occurred six years ago, still has not been forgotten by Reds fans.

The England international is regularly booed on his visits to Anfield now, although he was not on for long yesterday.

Difficult times for Sterling

Sterling played just 24 minutes for Liverpool and failed to really forge too many openings for himself during the contest.

It has been a similar story for much of this season for the England international.

Jack Grealish’s arrival at City seems to have knocked him down the pecking order somewhat, and he is now struggling to find a place.

Sterling has just one goal in his seven Premier League matches to date.

With both sides claiming a share of the points, Liverpool are currently stationed one place above City in the Premier League table as things stand.
