Newcastle United have taken Steve Bruce from Sheffield Wednesday, and he’ll get to work soon with his new side.

According to the Chronicle, Newcastle United’s players are actually ‘more than receptive’ to Steve Bruce’s appointment, despite the protests from supporters.

Newcastle lost 4-0 to Wolverhampton Wanderers in their first pre-season friendly yesterday, after having their preparations for the new campaign disrupted.

Newcastle have not had a permanent manager in place over pre-season so far, with Ben Dawson and Neil Redfearn having to take training since Rafael Benitez’s departure.

Bruce is now finally set to make a start at Newcastle in the coming days, as he travels out to Asia to meet his new squad.

The players are said to be happy that they finally have a new manager in place, and are more than willing to give him a chance.

Bruce’s appointment has not gone down well with Newcastle fans, but the squad are more open to working with the experienced boss.

It seems highly unlikely that Bruce will be able to win around his doubters at Newcastle though, and his faces a very difficult job.

There is a huge amount of frustration at St. James’ Park, and if Newcastle start the season badly the mood will only worsen.
