Newcastle’s move for Chelsea striker Loic Remy has been deemed ‘very unlikely’.
Loic Remy has been linked with a surprise return to Newcastle United in recent times, but the Shields Gazette believe that it is a move that is ‘highly unlikely’ to happen.
The Daily Star were first to report that Newcastle were interested in bringing Remy back to St. James’ Park on loan, but the switch has been effectively ruled out by the local paper.
Newcastle had apparently been hoping that Remy’s lack of first-team opportunity at Chelsea would convince him to come back to a place he was so successful at previously.
However, any hope they had of closing an ambitious swoop has been extinguished today and they will have to move on to other targets.
Newcastle are thought to be on the hunt for players to improve their squad, but without a permanent manager in charge they are likely to wait until the summer until doing so, according to the Chronicle.
Remy would have been a quality addition to their squad, but the deal always appeared a hopeful one rather than a genuine possibility.
The Frenchman has made 18 appearances for the Blues so far and he has scored four goals during his time at Stamford Bridge.
