According to the Daily Mail, John Morling has been sacked from his role at Brighton following an alleged COVID-19 breach, amid interest from Newcastle.

What’s the story?

Well, it was the Daily Mail who revealed that Newcastle want to hire Morling, who worked as Academy Manager at Brighton.

That news was shared on February 16th, but now, the Englishman has left his role with the Seagulls.

It comes after Newcastle pinched Dan Ashworth from Brighton, as well as towering centre-back Dan Burn.

Ashworth will join the Magpies once his lengthy notice period is over.

The Daily Mail admit that they are unsure whether Morling is now allowed to join Newcastle immediately given the nature of his departure.

However, he is – obviously – now unemployed, so you would presume that Newcastle can hire him soon if they remain interested in doing so.

John Morling could transform Newcastle

If Morling does end up on Tyneside, Newcastle fans should be excited.

He has proven himself to be an excellent developer of talent, having helped the likes of Ben White and Robert Sanchez break through at Brighton.

It has been a while since Newcastle had a regular flow of exciting prospects emerge from the Academy.

In recent times, only Sean and Matty Longstaff have emerged from the youth ranks to make an impact on the first-team.

Under Mike Ashley, the Academy was heavily neglected, so it’s encouraging to see Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi attempt to make improvements in that department.

Keep an eye on this situation, as Newcastle’s updated stance on Morling after his exit from Brighton remains to be seen.
