Tottenham Hotspur will be hoping the South Korea international impresses consistently this season.
According to a report from the Daily Mail, Tottenham Hotspur player Heung-Min Son has been allowed to miss South Korea’s World Cup qualifier against Syria on Tuesday so he can focus on getting his club career back on track.
The 24-year-old signed for Spurs from Bayer Leverkusen last summer in a deal that many Bundesliga observers hailed as a masterstroke.
However, to date the attacker has failed to live up to his reputation despite featuring 42 times last season, scoring eight goals and providing five assists in the process.
That is a decent return, but for the money Tottenham spent they will be expecting more this season.
Son certainly has the talent, as his time in Germany proves, and much like Erik Lamela before him he could simply need time to settle in North London before going on to show exactly what he can do.
But it is telling that he has been allowed to leave his international duty early in order to return to Tottenham ahead of their Premier League clash with Stoke City and their opening Champions League game against AS Monaco.
It is in the latter competition that Son could really shine this season, proving categorically that he can be a long term success at the club.
