Celtic’s Dedryck Boyata appears to be nearing a move to Hertha Berlin.
According to The Scottish Sun, Hertha Berlin believe they’ve beaten a number of clubs to sign Celtic’s Dedryck Boyata – and are expecting him to sign within two weeks.
Boyata, 28, has been a regular for Celtic since arriving from Manchester City in 2015, and developed so well under Brendan Rodgers that he played for Belgium at last summer’s World Cup.
The centre back then decided to try and force through a move away from Parkhead, but Celtic stood firm and kept him, even though they knew he’d likely walk away for free at the end of his deal.
That contract is set to expire in a matter of weeks, and The Scottish Sun report that Hertha now think they’ve won the race for his signature despite interest from elsewhere.
It’s noted that Boyata has been discussing a huge £40,000-a-week deal with Hertha, and it’s expected to be done within the next two weeks.
Losing Boyata for free is a huge blow for Celtic, even if it’s an expected one, and few would blame him for taking that money given it’s a major increase on his Celtic wages.
Sporting director Michael Preetz is handling talks after the departure of manager Pal Dardai, and he’ll seemingly be leaving one club in managerial uncertainty for one with a rookie coach taking charge next season in Ante Covic.
