According to The Telegraph, potential Newcastle United owner Henry Mauriss admires the way the Fenway Sports Group have transformed Liverpool.
Newcastle were expected to be taken over by a Saudi-led consortium. However, the deal – which also involves Amanda Staveley and the Reuben brothers – has stalled.
The Premier League may yet block the proposed deal, due to media rights in Saudi Arabia. That could open the window for other potential buyers, such as Mauriss.
Mauriss is allegedly preparing an offer to buy Newcastle if the Saudi takeover falls through. Newcastle even believe that he is ready to move quickly to buy the club.
There are interesting notes in the article about Mauriss having a team in place to get a deal done, but arguably the most fascinating part surrounds Liverpool’s owners.
Mauriss – an American media mogul and chief executive of ClearTV – allegedly ‘admires’ the Fenway Sports Group and the work they have done at Anfield.

Mauriss’s interest in his compatriots has seemingly inspired him. He even believes he has an idea how to grow the club on and off the pitch, in part down to the way Liverpool have progressed.
John Henry and Tom Werner have rebuilt Liverpool since buying them in 2010, overseeing a rise to becoming European and World champions whilst becoming the gold standard for analytics in football.
Mauriss may want to do the same with Newcastle, and matching FSG’s success at Liverpool may well be the goal if he can pull off a £300million deal.
