The centre-back has long been linked with a move to Leeds United.
According to a report from Bologna News, Filip Helander could be nearing the exit after his current club signed Giancarlo Gonzalez to take their number of senior centre-backs to five.
As a result it is being claimed the 24-year-old could move on this summer, with Leeds United very keen on his signature.
The report states that while it had previously been felt that Daniele Gastaldello would be the defender to make way Bologna are now thinking about cash in on Helander, who would generate considerably more money and who is high on Leeds’ wish list.
The Whites have signed Matthew Pennington on loan from Everton to strengthen their back line. However the club could do with a more experienced option to form a long-term partnership with Pontus Jansson and his fellow Swede Helander fits the bill.
With former loanee Kyle Bartley no longer at Elland Road and doubts remaining over Liam Cooper’s ability to perform week in, week out, a move for Helander would suit all parties.
It remains to be seen if Leeds will get a deal over the line, with the defender not coming cheap, but at least Bologna have the players to cover for his absence if he does move on before the transfer window closes next month.
Leeds need to ensure they complete their jigsaw while they have the chance and Helander could be just what they need ahead of a successful 2018.
