According to the Sheffield Star, Leeds United boss Paul Heckingbottom wants to land Barnsley defender Andy Yiadom – but Elland Road chiefs aren’t sure about the move.
The Whites endured a difficult 2018, and need major reinforcements this summer to get anywhere close to the Championship play-offs next season.
Victor Orta needs to improve in the transfer market after making a host of terrible signings last summer, but it seems that Leeds boss Heckingbottom may not get one of his top targets.
The Sheffield Star report that Heckingbottom wants to sign Barnsley defender Yiadom, who is a free agent this summer and allegedly fancies his chances of securing a Premier League move.
Heckingbottom signed Yiadom for Barnsley back in 2016 after impressing with Barnet, and the Leeds boss is unsurprisingly keen to reunite with the right back on a free transfer.
However, it’s claimed that Leeds chiefs aren’t sure about a deal and are so far reluctant to push through a deal this summer, which may leave Yiadom looking elsewhere.
Heckingbottom may be frustrated that he can’t land his top targets, especially a player he has worked with before and clearly trusts, and is available for nothing.
It may well be Orta that is holding up a move given his control over transfers, but it remains to be seen whether Leeds do end up backing Heckingbottom’s move for Yiadom this summer.
