According to The Scottish Sun, Celtic may sell defender Hatem Abd Elhamed during the January transfer window.
It’s claimed that Elhamed has found life difficult during the global pandemic, as he is living alone whilst his wife and son are back in Israel.
Elhamed has allegedly communicated his difficulties to Celtic, and the club are sympathetic to his struggles, meaning a January move could materialise.
Maccabi Tel-Aviv are thought to be interested in Elhamed, in a deal that could be permanent or a loan until the end of the season.
Celtic’s Nick Hammond is looking for a replacement already, as the club look to facilitate a move back home for the Israeli international.
Elhamed cost £1.6million from Hapoel Be’er Sheva in 2019, but has been leapfrogged by Jeremie Frimpong in the Celtic pecking order.
The 29-year-old has shown talent at Celtic, but injuries and competition for places have been difficult for him, whilst being away from home is seemingly a struggle too.
Back in August, Neil Lennon hailed Elhamed as ‘very good’ after a display against KR Reykjavik, suggesting that he had been knocking on the door for first-team football.
Come next month though, Elhamed could end up leaving Celtic, with the club supportive of the defender’s wishes to go and be with his family.
