Birmingham City will announce Harry Redknapp as their next permanent manager later this week after the former Tottenham Hotspur boss successfully managed to keep the club in the Championship, as reports the Daily Mirror.
The 70-year-old led Birmingham to two wins from his three games in charge to narrowly avoid the relegation trap door to League One, at a time where all seemed lost at St Andrews following a horrendous run under previous boss Gianfranco Zola.
Zola won an incredible two games from a possible 24 after being hired following the controversial sacking of Gary Rowett in December, with the Blues just three points behind third place at the time of the current Derby County manager’s dismissal.
That run saw Birmingham tumble down the table at an alarming rate, to the point that even if Birmingham had drawn their final game of the season against Bristol City, given how results went elsewhere, Redknapp’s side would have gone down.

As Redknapp brought in Steve Cotterill as his number two, there had been talk that Redknapp would make way for the much younger Cotterill, but it now seems as if Birmingham will stick with Redknapp in the hope of promotion next season.
Despite being in such peril, Birmingham managed to finish their Championship season in 19th place, two points above 22nd placed Blackburn Rovers.
