The 24-year-old impressed despite the Tigers’ relegation from the Premier League and has been touted as a future England star.

Although Spurs in particular are known for their development of the country’s young internationals, it is claimed that Maguire believes he has the best chance of playing regular football under new Leicester boss Craig Shakespeare.

Like Tottenham, Newcastle are expected to add to their back line this summer, although Toon boss Rafa Benitez appears to be seeking out cheaper alternatives, with £12 million and £8.7 million bids reportedly submitted for Eliaquim Mangala and Florian Lejeune, respectively.

Spurs have also been credited with an interest in Lejeune, along with Joel Veltman and Matthias Ginter, and it remains to be seen whether they, and/or Newcastle, will make a last-ditch attempt to change Maguire’s mind.
