Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Harry Winks would ideally like to stay put – but may ultimately have to leave the club.

That’s according to The Athletic, who suggest that Winks would prefer to stay with Tottenham, which is no great shock.

The 25-year-old has been with Spurs since 2002, meaning he is coming up to a 20-year association with Tottenham.

Things are becoming difficult for him though. Winks hasn’t played in a single Premier League game for more than a month now, and he has played just once in the Premier League since the end of the January transfer window.

Winks hasn’t featured at all since Tottenham’s shocking 3-0 collapse at the hands of Dinamo Zagreb on the 18th of March, with Jose Mourinho seemingly far from convinced.

With just seven Premier League starts all season, Winks clearly isn’t in favour under Mourinho, and he may be better off playing under somebody else.

The Mirror reported earlier this month that Spurs are willing to let Winks go, and both Atletico Madrid and Everton are keen, alongside Sevilla and Valencia.

It won’t be easy for Winks to say goodbye to Tottenham; that’s his club, the club he has grown up with. If Mourinho is still Spurs boss this summer, it may be best for his career to move on.
