Philippe Coutinho has just joined Aston Villa, but according to The Telegraph, he could have been a Tottenham player if Hansi Flick had been given the Spurs job.
The German manager was in the running to replace Jose Mourinho in the summer, but in the end, he ended up taking the job as the German national team manager, succeeding Jogi Low.
However, Flick was seemingly considering the Spurs job. In fact, he’d even picked out his first transfer target as Coutinho.
Flick, of course, knows Coutinho well from his loan spell with Bayern Munich where the Brazilian helped the Bavarian outfit towards a memorable Champions League triumph.
Perhaps unfortunately, Flick didn’t end up north London and Spurs opted to go for Nuno Espirito Santo, who was swiftly replaced by Antonio Conte.
Conte is yet to make his first signing for Tottenham, but one thing is for sure, it won’t be Coutinho as the Brazilian has just joined Aston Villa.
It would have been very interesting to see how Coutinho would have gotten on at Spurs under Flick. The German got a tune out of the 29-year-old at Bayern, as Coutinho racked up 14 goal contributions in 23 appearances, but sadly, we never got to see the pair reunited in north London.
