According to Mundo Deportivo, Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola thinks that Timo Werner will join Chelsea or Liverpool having failed to land him.

It’s claimed that Guardiola wanted Werner at City. Sergio Aguero is out of contract in 2021, so Guardiola may have viewed Werner as an ideal long-term successor.

However, it’s stated that Guardiola’s approach has ‘failed to seduce’ Werner. The City boss now thinks Werner will instead join Chelsea or Liverpool instead.

Werner, 24, has been in sensational form this season. He has smashed 30 goals and 12 assists in 39 appearances this term, terrorising Bundesliga defences.

The striker has a €60million (£52million) release clause in his contract, but whether anybody will actually step forward to pay that remains to be seen.

The Mirror claimed just last week that Liverpool are backing out of the race, as they don’t want to pay that fee and haven’t been able to convince Leipzig into a cheaper deal.

Guardiola seemingly believes that Werner will still end up at Anfield, which would give the Reds a major transfer win over their Premier League title rivals.
