Pep Guardiola is reportedly interested in Barcelona goalkeeper Claudio Bravo, a move that would call into question Joe Hart’s position at Manchester City
Manchester City bound? Claudio Bravo
Pep Guardiola is reportedly interested in his former goalkeeper Claudio Bravo, according to Mundo Deportivo.
The Chilean goalkeeper, 33, joined Barcelona from Real Sociedad back in 2014, originally to provide competition for fellow new keeper signing Marc-Andre ter Stegen.
However, the Chilean quickly established himself as the Catalan club’s number one stopper, making 37 league appearances during his maiden campaign, sidelining ter Stegen to just European and Cup action.
Bravo joined Barcelona in 2012
And it appears that Guardiola, who left Barcelona in 2012, has taken note of Bravo’s success during his time at the Nou Camp, and is seeking stronger competition for Joe Hart.
Hart has come in for much criticism for his performances during the European Championships, where England were acrimoniously dumped out of the tournament by minnows Iceland.
Under fire: Joe Hart
The England goalkeeper was questioned for his display against Wales, where he let in a Gareth Bale free kick from all of 35 yards which he really should have saved, and then let in an equally tame effort from Dahl Bodvarsson for Iceland’s second goal which ultimately condemned England to a shock exit.
Bravo meanwhile enjoyed successful trip to the United States with Chile, where his side retained the Copa America.
Is Guardiola calling into question Joe Hart’s position at the Etihad?
Mundo Deportivo report that City are hoping to sign Gerónimo Rulli from Bravo’s old club Real Sociedad with a view to loaning him back to the Basque club, and that Bravo would provide short term competition for Joe Hart.
Clearly, Joe Hart’s position at the Etihad looks like it is being called into question by his new manager.
