Manchester City have reportedly eyed a move for RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol, a player Leeds United desperately wanted after their promotion to the Premier League.
According to Sport Bild via Sports Illustrated, Pep Guardiola’s side have added the Croatian international to their wish list, with midfield teammate Christopher Nkunku also being eyed by City ahead of the summer transfer window.
As per the report, Leipzig value Gvardiol at around €25m (£21m) just a few months after winning the race to sign the highly-rated defender, beating Leeds and Marcelo Bielsa in the process.
The Yorkshire giants were heavily linked with the former Dinamo Zagreb star in 2020, however, despite multiple offers, Gvardiol snubbed a move to Leeds as per Sportske Novosti to join the Bundesliga club.
And now, some two years later, Gvardiol is being eyed by the Premier League champions, with the versatile 20-year-old defender developing well for the east German club over the past few seasons.
Gvardiol has this campaign made 29 appearances in all competitions, six of which have come in the UEFA Champions League, and with City now interested in the youngster, the news could be a kick in the teeth for Leeds.
City interest highlights how badly Leeds got it wrong with Gvardiol

Whilst it is not too surprising, at the time, that Gvardiol chose to join Leipzig over Leeds, the decision now still looks like one that reflects poorly on the Yorkshire giants, especially with City now eyeing a move for Gvardiol.
The Croat has developed into an excellent top-tier defender, and at just 20, Gvardiol has more time to fine-tune his game, with his qualities now catching the eye of the likes of Guardiola at City.
