A report has suggested that there are concerns that the takeover of Newcastle United may not take place.

After a bright start to the season, the Magpies have been brought back down to earth recently – as many fans expected they would after an underwhelming summer transfer window – with four defeats on the spin in the Premier League, which leaves them just four places and four points above the bottom three in the top flight.

The recent run has surely brought it home how they need to use the January transfer window wisely to try and drag themselves away from danger – but it appears that there is plenty of uncertainty regarding who will own the club by the time the window opens.

The news will undoubtedly be a major blow to the supporters who were looking forward to seeing the end of Ashley’s tenure at Newcastle.
But, from Benitez’s perspective, perhaps he will feel that the longer the uncertainty surrounds the potential takeover, the more likely it will be that he will go into the January window without the funds he feels he needs to turn Newcastle’s fortunes around to ensure that their slide towards the bottom three does not continue into the New Year.
