According to Voetbal International, Groningen have identified Linus Wahlqvist as a replacement for coveted Southampton target Deyovaisio Zeefuik.
Zeefuik is in his last year of his contract at Groningen and tipped to leave.
A report by Voetbal Zone back in April first cited Southampton’s interest in Zeefuik with Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side prioritising a new fullback this summer.

The Saints currently have Kyle Walker-Peters on loan from Tottenham Hotspur. However, the youngster is likely to return to North London leaving the South Coast club short on options.
Zeefuik, 22, boasts plenty of potential and Groningen are seemingly planning for his exit.
Voetabal International say Groningen will look to sign Wahlqvist after the right-back departed Dynamo Dresden on a free transfer at the end of his contract.
Southampton, however, face competition for Zeefuik from Hertha Berlin.
Kicker say Groningen seek £5 million for their Amsterdam-born attacking fullback while Hertha are hoping they can land the player for a cheaper fee.
Zeefuik is a former Ajax youth player and a move to Southampton would see him follow Dusan Tadic, Graziano Pelle and Maya Yoshida who all came from the Eredivisie.
The Saints, meanwhile, have returned to Premier League action in fine form. Their surge up the table will only make them a more attractive proposition this summer.
