Aston Villa’s search for a holding midfielder goes on and on.

According to Telefoot in France, Marseille midfielder Gregory Sertic has rejected a move to Aston Villa – because he wants to play in Spain or the United States.
Villa have made two signings this month in goalkeeper Lovre Kalinic and defender Kortney Hause, but one position remains a concern for Dean Smith.
Villa have been linked with a host of holding midfielders this month, and it seems that another one has slipped through their net.
Telefoot report that Villa were hoping to take Marseille’s Sertic on loan for the rest of the season, but he has rejected the move ahead of tomorrow’s transfer deadline.
It’s claimed that Sertic has a specific reason for rejecting the move, and that’s because he wants to play in Spain or the United States instead.
Sertic wants a ‘new challenge’ and he seemingly doesn’t feel that a loan move until the end of the season with Villa is quite tickling his fancy.

The 29-year-old, formerly Bordeaux and Lens, joined Marseille in 2017, but has been a bit-part player with just 24 appearances in two years at Marseille.
Villa were willing to offer the former France Under-21 international some playing time given that Glenn Whelan and Mile Jedinak are ageing, but it seems that they now have to go back to the drawing board, with Sertic not interested.
