Arsenal appear to be closing in on Ajax defender Jurrien Timber after agreeing a five-year deal worth around £130,000-a-week.

Jurrien Timber has agreed terms on a deal with Arsenal as he nears a move from Ajax to North London.

That is according to a report from Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf, who report that Timber now has an agreement in place with Arsenal.

It’s stated that Timber has agreed to an €8million-a-year deal with Arsenal, which works out to around £130,000-a-week.

The next step for Arsenal is to agree a deal with Ajax, which has proven tricky so far.

De Telegraaf claim that Arsenal and Ajax are crawling towards an agreement with progress seemingly very slow.

The Athletic noted last week that Arsenal had offered around £30million to sign Timber.

However, Ajax were seeking around £50million, meaning there was a hefty gap to be bridged.

Arsenal will hope to find agreement with Ajax very soon, with everything else seemingly in place with Timber himself.

Jurrien Timber’s versatility surely appeals to Arsenal

Timber has been hailed as a ‘great player’ by Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk and Arsenal seemingly feel the same way.

The 22-year-old has already racked up more than 120 appearances for Ajax and has won two league titles with the Amsterdam giants.

Arsenal may well be attracted to Timber’s versatility and how he can fit into Mikel Arteta’s tactical approach.

Timber is a right-sided centre back who stands at just 5ft 10in tall, but he has superb pace to make up for his lack of height.

Timber has also played as a right back and holding midfielder, meaning Mikel Arteta may move him around a little.

The Dutchman may be used in the same way as Oleksandr Zinchenko on the left side, starting as a full back but drifting into a supporting midfield role.

Timber will likely compete with Ben White at right back whilst offering competition for William Saliba as the right centre back, which is just what Arsenal need.
