Hanley failed to break into Newcastle’s team last season, with Jamaal Lascelles and Ciaran Clark both ahead him in Benitez’s pecking order.
Hanley’s chances of playing regular first-team football this upcoming season look limited.
Newcastle have added Florian Lejeune to their defensive ranks, which means Hanley is now fourth choice at St. James’ Park.
The Magpies would prefer to offload Hanley, but with just a month remaining there is a fear that he could now stick around at St. James’ Park.
