Report: Grandson of ex-England international ignores Leeds interest to sign new deal, loan move possible

Leeds United were keen on signing Tommy Doyle before the Manchester City talent agreed a new deal, according to The M.E.N.

Doyle – who is the grandson of former Manchester City players Mike Doyle, an ex-England international, and Glyn Pardoe – was due to be out of contract at the end of this season.

But the 18-year-old has now signed up until 2025 at the Etihad Stadium, with The M.E.N reporting that he was ‘convinced enough by the pathway put forward by City’ to ignore Leeds’ interest.

Leeds, whose manager Marcelo Bielsa has a known admirer his Manchester City counterpart Pep Guardiola, could still have a chance at landing Doyle’s signature, however, with the newspaper adding that a loan move ‘has not been ruled out’.

But it is said that the intention is for Doyle to stay with Guardiola and ‘continue his development this season’.

The Mancunian, who is City’s youth team captain, has appeared on three occasions for his boyhood club’s first team.

His signing would have strengthened Leeds’ options in central midfield, which currently comprise Kalvin Phillips, Mateusz Klich, Adam Forshaw and Jamie Shackleton.

Doyle’s former Manchester City teammate, Ian Carlos Poveda, moved to Leeds from the Etihad Stadium in January,
