Glasgow Rangers boss Graeme Murty has reportedly stepped down from his role at Ibrox.
Murty initially took the job on an interim basis in the wake of Pedro Caixinha’s departure and was then given the role for the rest of the campaign after impressing once again in difficult circumstances – he performed the same job when Mark Warburton had left earlier in 2017.
However, his time in a more settled position has been underwhelming to say the least, with the wheels coming off in dramatic fashion in recent weeks before the apparent culmination at Parkhead on Sunday.
Rangers twice took the lead during the most recent Old Firm game at Ibrox, but ended up losing against a Celtic side that had been reduced to 10 men. The loss quashed any talk of a potential title race, and the subsequent 4-0 and 5-0 defeats saw their bitter rivals book their place in the Scottish Cup final and wrap up the league title at their expense.
The report does not suggest whether he may return to his former role with the development team, but the news is set to be greeted extremely positively amongst the supporters who felt that Murty was simply not good enough to handle the Ibrox job.
