According to The Scottish Sun, Gordon Strachan is being offered a shock return to Celtic in a technical director capacity.
The Bhoys took a long time to find their manager, landing Ange Postecoglou earlier this month having parted ways with Neil Lennon back in February.
Celtic have also been trying to fill their director of football position without much luck, but Strachan could now return to Parkhead to help.
Strachan’s return to Celtic
It’s stated that Dermot Desmond admires Strachan from his time managing Celtic, and believes he is the experienced head needed above Postecoglou.
Strachan’s son Gavin is currently on the Celtic coaching team, and a return to Celtic could appeal to the 64-year-old, who is currently at Dundee.
It’s unclear just how much power Strachan will have, or whether he is even taking the director of football job or moving into a newly-created position at Celtic.
The move seems likely if this report is anything to go by though, meaning Strachan will return to work at Celtic for the first time since 2009.
How did Strachan fare in his first spell?
Strachan became Celtic manager back in 2005, replacing Martin O’Neill following his move to Aston Villa.
Strachan won 122 of his 182 games in charge of Celtic, with his 67% win rate in that job proving to be the best of his managerial career.
He won three league titles and three domestic cups at Celtic, and must now attempt to get Celtic back to that level by taking an upstairs role at Parkhead.
