Everton and Tottenham Hotspur are being linked with River Plate’s Gonzalo Martinez.
According to Calciomercato.it, the agent of River Plate playmaker Gonzalo Martinez has been in England for transfer talks, with Everton, Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur all interested.
Whilst there have long been concerns about signing players straight from South America into the Premier League, Gabriel Jesus has shown how that can be a success, and more and more players – particularly in Argentina – are being linked with moves to England.
Boca Juniors trio Cristian Pavon, Wilmar Barrios and Frank Fabra have all been linked with Premier League clubs in recent weeks, and now another Buenos Aires-based talent can be added to the list.
Calciomercato.it report that the agent of River Plate star Gonzalo Martinez has been in England lately for talks over finding him a Premier League club, and three are interested.
It’s claimed that Everton, Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur are all keen on Martinez having tracked his progress in 2018, and could be tempted into making a move for him.
Martinez allegedly has a release clause of just €15million (£13.25million) in his deal, making him a relatively cheap signing for Premier League clubs, whilst he wouldn’t need a work permit as he has an Italian passport.
Martinez, 25, has hit seven goals and four assists in his last 25 games for River, and has been touted for a move away, much like former River playmaker and West Ham star Manuel Lanzini.
Quick, skilful and with a dangerous left foot, Martinez may be an under-the-radar target for Premier League clubs this summer, and it remains to be seen whether any of the interested parties make a move.
