Goalkeeper Alex Manninger has begun training with Liverpool.

According to the Daily Express, Liverpool have taken veteran goalkeeper Alex Manninger on trial with a view to a permanent deal at Anfield.
The Reds have already landed one goalkeeper this summer, as German Loris Karius joined the club from Mainz to challenge Simon Mignolet for the number one jersey next season.
Manager Jurgen Klopp is continuing to work on the position, as youngster Danny Ward is heading to Huddersfield Town on loan, whilst Hungarian Adam Bogdan is surplus to requirement after a torrid first season with the club.
Now, it seems that Klopp is ready to bring in another goalkeeper, with the Daily Express reporting that Alex Manninger has joined the club on trial, and could earn a permanent deal as Liverpool’s third-choice goalkeeper.
Manninger, 39, may be familiar to some Premier League fans having previously played for Arsenal, where he made 30 appearances in the late 1990’s and early 2000’s.
Since leaving North London in 2002, Manninger has turned out for Espanyol, Torino, Bologna, Siena, Red Bull Salzburg, Udinese, Juventus and Augsburg, with the Austrian leaving the latter this summer after 34 appearances in the past four years.
A vastly experienced goalkeeper, Manninger would offer a veteran presence behind Mignolet and Karius, whilst on a free transfer, he would take little out of Klopp’s budget.
It remains to be seen whether Manninger will be offered a permanent deal, but he’s begun training with the club today, putting him in contention for a contract.
