Glenn Loovens is set to become Sunderland’s eighth summer signing, according to the Northern Echo.

The 34-year-old left Sheffield Wednesday at the end of last season, becoming a free agent, and Sunderland have now pounced.

Jack Ross reportedly wants to use Loovens’ experience in the heart of his side’s defence, as he feels it could be key over the season ahead.

Sunderland have already been busy this summer, but Ross is keen to add more new players before the start of the season.

Once Loovens is signed, Sunderland are expected to focus on bringing some more attacking options for Ross.

Sunderland are heavily linked with Cheltenham forward Mohamed Eisa and Bradford City target-man Charlie Wyke.
