Glasgow Rangers are seriously considering putting Frank Lampard in charge, the Guardian report.
Lampard to Rangers?
Rangers are on the hunt for a new manager now with Steven Gerrard set to leave Ibrox and move to Aston Villa in the coming days.
And Lampard is said to be on their radar, as Rangers assess who to bring in to replace Gerrard.
Lampard and Gerrard, of course, know each other well, having been England teammates over the years.
Indeed, Lampard was regularly asked about Gerrard’s progress at Ibrox during his time in Scotland.
Gerrard generally has earned great praise for the job that he has done at Rangers, but it was not always smooth sailing.
In the early days the 41-year-old manager came under some pressure, and at that time Lampard didn’t offer much in the way of sympathy for the Rangers boss.
“We all have the same pressures however it might look from the outside,” Lampard said to Goal. “So, I’m not talking about ‘sympathy’ because we’re both tough. I know Steven and he’s a hard lad. I mean that in a good way.
“I don’t want sympathy and I’m not going to hand sympathy or lessons or talks to Steven.”
Point to prove
If Lampard did now join Rangers he would do so with a point to prove.
Lampard has generally been credited for giving young players an opportunity throughout his career to date, but Chelsea’s results seriously improved after his departure.
He would inherit at Rangers side where winning is a priority too.
Gerrard has transformed the Light Blues’ fortunes during his time at the club and led them to the title last term.
Rangers look on the right track to make it back to back league triumphs too, currently.
The Ibrox side are four points clear at the top of the table, giving their new manager a good chance to win silverware in his first season at the club.
