Glasgow Rangers are closing in on the signing of Jamie Murphy, according to The Mail.

Rangers are negotiating a deal for the winger and hope to make him their first January signing at Ibrox.

Murphy is valued at around £1 million by Brighton and was left out of their squad on New Year’s Day for the fixture with Bournemouth.

The Mail‘s report claims an agreement between Rangers and Brighton is ‘close’.

Murphy was a key player for Brighton in the Championship over the past two seasons but has struggled for game time upon their promotion to the Premier League.

The winger would become the first signing made by manager Graeme Murty, who was recently appointed until the end of the season.

The Daily Record had reported a fortnight ago that Brighton were unwilling to sell Murphy, but their stance appears to have changed.

28-year-old Murphy was born in Glasgow but began his career at Motherwell, earning a move to England. Now a new chapter in his career beckons.
