Mike Ashley is reportedly unwilling to negotiate on a deal for Newcastle United.
According to the Daily Mail, Peter Kenyon and his consortium are still interested in Newcastle United – but Mike Ashley’s terms are proving prohibitive to a deal.
On the pitch, Newcaste have won twice in a row after a dismal start to the season, and will be looking for another win when they face Burnley in the Premier League on Monday night.
Off the pitch, the Magpies’ situation remains unclear, as owner Mike Ashley put the club up for sale over a year ago now, yet there has been no deal struck for a takeover.
Amanda Staveley was the closest to securing a deal earlier this year, but that move went cold, and it remains unclear whether Ashley will end up selling in the near future.
The Daily Mail note that ex-Chelsea and Manchester United chief executive Kenyon has a consortium of investors interested in the club, but Ashley’s reluctance to budge on key terms means a deal is unlikely.
A major part of the situation is that interested parties want some form of money back in case the club suffer relegation from the Premier League, and Ashley won’t accept such terms.
Newcastle fans will have been desperate to see Ashley go before the January transfer window, but it seems that no takeover will go through even with Kenyon’s interest – and Rafael Benitez’s budget may suffer for it.
