Sky Sports claim that the Newcastle United Supporters Trust (NUST) held a meeting with Premier League boss Richard Masters demanding answers after their failed takeover attempt.

The Magpies were expected to be the new dominant financial force in the Premier when a wealthy Saudi Arabian consortium entered into talks with Mike Ashley to buy the club this summer.

After months of discussions, the same group announced that they had pulled out of the process due to the time it had taken. Many felt that the group could not pass the Premier League’s Owners and Directors Test which eventually ruined the deal.

Newcastle fans have come out the worst after this. Magpies supporters were made to dream big, but they were completely kept out of the loop for months before it was announced that the deal had collapsed.

Masters told the NUST that the Saudi group disagreed with the Premier League’s assessment during their Owners and Directors Test and withdrew their bid as a result.

However, the Premier League Chief Executive has assured Newcastle fans that the takeover could be reignited if the group provided additional information that the league is demanding.

The Trust reportedly left the meeting with the belief that the ball is in the buyers’ court and a deal could potentially be struck if they decide to re-enter talks in the coming days.

The report also claims that Mike Ashley has remained in communication with the Saudi group, and he would be willing to close the deal with them if they complete the formalities with the Premier League.

Newcastle fans will certainly be hoping that the Saudi consortium does their bit to convince the Premier League soon. Magpies supporters are clearly frustrated with how things have dragged on over the last four months. But, if the takeover finally goes through, all that frustration will be replaced by joy.
