A Daily Mail report has given Sunderland fresh hope of signing Liverpool forward Ben Woodburn in January.
Sunderland have been linked with a move for the Wales international, who made his international debut under Mackems boss Chris Coleman earlier this year.
The Sun reported on Sunday, however, that Liverpool are against allowing Woodburn to leave the club on loan this winter.
According to the Daily Mail, though, Reds boss Jurgen Klopp has now decided that the teenager’s development will be better-served playing first-team football elsewhere, which is set to spark a ‘transfer scramble’.
The report adds that despite alleged interest from Huddersfield Town and Hannover 96, the Championship is Woodburn’s most likely destination – which should be music to Sunderland’s ears.
The Mackems moved out of the league’s bottom three for the first time since September after Saturday’s win against Fulham – their first at home in 364 days.
Reinforcements could still be required, however, to guarantee the club’s safety.
